Here are some examples of mountain bike tours with the Thyon/Les Collons, Les Masses and Evolene area.
Val de Hérémence & the Dixence
From Les Masses below Les Collons we tour along the west side of the valley through the pretty village of Riod and along part of the Grand Raid route before crossing the Dixence.
We climb and descend through the forests passing wooden chalets and barns on the eastern side of the valley exploring paths, tracks and the ancient waterways that crisscross the mountain
Before returning to Les Masses we cross the river again and we climb back through Mâche stopping for refreshments and to trace our route on the view like a map before us
Lower Val D’Herens
Starting in Lana we head out on the route of the Grand Raid passing through Evoléne one of the best preserved villages in the Val D'Herens with traditional four storey wooden chalets dating from the 16th century. From the village we climb into the forest to make making a single track descent before pressing on to Eison.
Then using an ancient waterway and single track we traverse the mountain before descending 800m to the valley floor though ancient villages stopping for refreshments and using trails that you will adore.
We then follow the river back up the gorge using hidden paths passing forgotten farms finishing with a well earned drink in the picture perfect Lana. This tour is breath taking in more ways than one.
Upper Val D’Herens
Starting in Lana we head out on the Evolenard Raid route climbing high into the mountain on track and single track, taking in the outstanding views and ancient farms along the way. From the summit we quickly descend 300m into the stunning upper valley winding our way down cart tracks
Then following the river we head through the valley to Arolla stopping for refreshments along the way. Turning we descend 600m in over 7 km to arrive in Les Hauderes before making a final short climb followed by a super single track decent returning along the river to Lana for some well earned refreshments.
Starting in Les Collons we descend via the piste into the Val de Hérémence to traversing its slopes through forests and alpine pastures. We then head up the valley passing avalanche corridors descending from the soon to be concord peaks high above us. From here we climb through scattered ancient chalets and alpine forests before heading over single track to the peak of Etherolla with its outstanding 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and valleys below. We then descend down the pistes of the 4 Vallées ski system stopping for refreshments before heading back through Thyon finishing with a descent into Les Collons via the piste, and alpine forest.
